Shadowing Practice Loop (“the Extension”) respects your privacy. This policy explains how data is handled when you use the Extension.

Data We Collect

• The Extension does not collect, sell, or share personally identifiable information.
• The Extension does not upload your browsing history, account information, or page content to any server (we do not operate a backend server).
• Practice segments and text selections are processed locally in your browser.

Microphone and Speech Recognition

• When you click “Speak”, the Extension requests microphone access via your browser’s getUserMedia for local recording and feedback.
• Recorded audio stays local (in memory or temporary object URLs) for playback or export; it is not uploaded to any server by the Extension.
• If your browser provides Web Speech recognition, recognition may be processed by the browser vendor’s service. The Extension does not receive or store server-side recognition data.

Captions and Third-Party Interactions

• On YouTube pages, the Extension reads the current video’s captions track metadata and fetches captions JSON from YouTube, solely to build practice segments locally.
• When you use the “Translate” feature, the selected text opens in Google Translate in a new window. This is a user-initiated action; the Extension does not store that text.

Local Storage

• The Extension uses local storage (e.g., chrome.storage.local) to save non-sensitive UI preferences such as theme.
• These preferences are used to improve your experience and do not contain sensitive personal information.

Data Sharing and Retention

• We do not share data with third parties and do not perform advertising or profiling.
• Recordings and recognition outputs are used within the local session. Unless you explicitly export a file, they are not persistently stored.

Security

• All scripts are bundled with the Extension and injected locally via chrome.runtime.getURL. The Extension does not load remote executable code or use eval.
• We follow a minimal-permissions design and operate only on YouTube domains.

Children’s Privacy

The Extension is intended for general users and is not specifically targeted at children. We do not knowingly collect children’s personal information.

Policy Updates

We may update this policy to reflect changes in functionality or regulations. The updated version will indicate the “Last updated” date.
